Simple Skincare Tips For The Rainy Season

Although monsoon will offer some much-needed respite from the scorching heat, the rains can cause damage to your skin and hair. Rain brings down the pollutants and floating toxins from the air and when this dirt comes in contact with the skin, it can cause rashes and allergies. Due to increased humidity during monsoons, your skin may also lose the ability to retain moisture and turn  eczematic. So, it is important that you follow a proper skincare routine to make the most of this rainy season.

Wash your face daily: The pores of your skin tend to get clogged with dirt and pollutants during monsoon causing the outbreak of pimples and rashes. Therefore, it is imperative to wash your face two to three times a day to avert these eruptions. You can also use a toner in case you have dry skin to keep the pores clean.

Use moisturizer: Though using a moisturizer is almost always associated with winter, it is equally important to use it during monsoon especially during the nights. Night is the time when the skin tries to repair itself on its own, therefore applying moisturizer helps in averting the wrinkles and maintains the glow of the skin.

Exfoliation of the skin: Monsoon is the time when your skin requires the most pampering, therefore, an exfoliation at least once in every week will help you to keep the dead cells away, consequently helping you to keep your skin glowing and soft.

Apply sunscreen: Similar to a moisturizer, a sunscreen is a product whose benefits are strictly associated with summer. But that is not rather should not be the case. During monsoon, even though the rays of the sun may not seem harsh, it can as well damage your skin; therefore applying a sunscreen should be something you must not miss.

Eat green vegetables: Your skin reflects not only the benefits of the cosmetic products that you apply on it, but also what you eat. Eating oily and junk products show their mark on the skin sooner than later, therefore the trick is to stay away from them and indulge in green vegetables. Your skin will inevitably show the benefits soon.

Eat fruits: The benefits of eating green vegetables and fruits go hand in hand. Rich in antioxidants, fruits help in maintaining the luster of your skin.

Drink lots of water: Water has plenty of advantages and it takes care of the skin, health as well as hair. Drinking plenty of water during monsoon takes care of the skin and keeps the glow.

What is Derma roller and what is its benefit on skin?

Derma Roller:

A derma roller, AKA a skin needling device, features a cylindrical body attached to a long handle. The cylinder is covered in tons of little needles that individually prick the surface of the skin, creating what are known as ‘micro-injuries’. Simply pick up the handle and roll the body of the device over the skin…well, that’s technically how it works. But, there are a lot of other things to take into consideration before getting rollin’.

We’re not asking you to inflict injury on your complexion for no reason — there are so many benefits to this practice. After micro-injuries are created, skin has to work extra hard to repair the ‘broken’ cells, which in turn accelerates the production of collagen and elastin. These key proteins are produced less effectively as we age, resulting in the formation of wrinkles and fine lines.

Many people are curious about what using a derma roller feels like, and despite the fact that many needles are involved, it’s a lot less painful than you’d think. The thin, short nature of the needles means you’ll barely feel it at all. You may experience slight discomfort or redness after using your derma roller, but at worst, it’ll feel like a mild sunburn.

How it works

When the dermaroller is rolled over the skin, the small, fine needles on the roller puncture the skin. The holes that the needles create in the skin are tiny and considered to be superficial. For this reason, the treatment is not seen as invasive. When the skin is punctured, this creates a controlled skin injury. It does not cause actual damage to the outer layer of skin. The needles help to break down any scar tissue.

Benefit

1. REDUCES THE APPEARANCE OF LINES AND WRINKLES

No one wants to look older than they are. But premature aging that presents as fine lines and wrinkles does just that. The tiny injuries from a microneedling session boost collagen and elastin production to fight lines and wrinkles.

Collagen and elastin are compounds in your skin that add structure and strength, lending a youthful quality. The wound-healing mechanisms also stimulate your body to produce new skin cells, making fine lines, crow’s feet, and forehead wrinkles less apparent.

2. SCAR TREATMENT

Because microneedling stimulates collagen and elastin production, it’s also super effective in addressing acne and other scars on your skin. The only type of scar not possible to treat is keloid, or raised, scars.

3. SUN DAMAGE

Microneedling is effective in reducing the appearance of sun damage, particularly hyperpigmentation and age spots. If you have a blotchy, brownish complexion, which is probably a result of too many days of sunning, microneedling and its ability to stimulate new collagen and skin cells can reinvigorate your look and even out your tone.

4. ANTI-AGING

Aging doesn’t just show up as wrinkles and discoloration. As you get older, your skin loses its elasticity, so it appears lax. Aging skin may also look dull and lack a lustrous glow. Microneedling can change this.

The buildup of collagen that occurs in response to the tiny wounds can improve skin structure to fight sagging. Plus, just 24 hours following a session, you experience a radiant, fresh glow.

5. SHRINKS PORES

Despite the fact that microneedling involves punching holes in your skin, it doesn’t increase the size of your pores. In fact, it helps your pores appear much smaller. When the collagen around your pores is stimulated, the area around each pore plumps, making the pore itself almost disappear.

Microneedling’s effects are comparable to laser and chemical peel treatments but without the long downtime. You can enjoy a glowing complexion 24-72 hours after microneedling, but with laser resurfacing, your recovery may take three to 10 days. Your complexion needs 14-21 days to bounce back after a medium or intensive peel.

What Is Blue Light?

Blue light (also referred to as High Energy Visible or HEV light) poses potential skin harm via free radical generation, Dr Williams explains, “as blue light has been shown in studies to induce oxidative stress in live skin”. This can contribute to skin ageing, like exposure to UVA (long known to age our skin prematurely), however – as Dr Williams points out – “blue light has the ability to penetrate deeper into the skin compared with both UVA and UVB light”. In fact, she notes, “blue light can penetrate all the way to our dermis, where our collagen and elastin live”. Read: loss of firmness and an increase in visible lines as a result.

How Blue Light Impacts Skin?

“We are now seeing increasing data on the potential long-term harms of visible light, and in particular blue light, on our skin,” according to dermatologist .It comes as we’re increasingly attached to our digital devices, swiftly being labelled the silent agers of our generation.

By a famous magazine the sources says that a person check  their phones an average of 200 times a day, and a 2021 report finding most people, on average, spend three hours and 30 minutes on our phones a day, with the top 20 per cent of smartphone users having daily screen time in excess of five and a half hours, we’re getting significantly more blue light exposure than we used to from the sun alone.

Emerging research reveals that blue light can cause oxidative damage, which may accelerate cellular aging (Source: Blue Light Induces Mitochondrial DNA damage & free radical production in epithelial cells). Blue light exposure also creates free radicals while decreasing antioxidants  in skin. Blue light can increase inflammation and slow skin barrier recovery .

How to protect your skin from blue light damage:

Clearly one needs to take an indoor and outdoor approach given that both sunlight and our digital devices emit blue light.

Before you tweak your skincare regime (which we'll get on to), address your tech and cover your phones and computers with a blue light shield. It’s a cheap fix and eliminates the need to worry about skincare or sunglasses when using your phone or tablet. Some smartphones have a setting that disables blue light in favour of yellow light (often called 'night mode' or 'nightshift'), which makes it easier on your eyes and on your skin. If your phone has this feature, use it all the time as a great anti-ageing and eye-saving method.

HOW TO REDUCE DARK SPOTS

As Skin Health Experts, we treat clients with hyperpigmentation and dark spot concerns in our clinics every day. If you’ve been looking for a solution to hyperpigmentation, sun spots, dark spots, or other skin pigmentation issues, we’re here to help. In this blog, we share some of the main causes and top solutions. If you've noticed more dark spots appearing on your skin lately and wonder what’s causing them, keep reading as we discuss what causes hyperpigmentation in the first place and how to brighten dark spots on the face.

The Main Causes :

Dark, fair, oily, or dry - no matter what skin type you have, dark spots can happen. If you're wondering what causes these spots to darken over time, it can all be traced back to one thing - melanin. Everyone's skin contains an amount of melanin - a pigment produced by your skin cells. Melanin acts as a form of protection for skin and hyperpigmentation forms when your skin has excessive amounts of it . This overload of melanin creates spots and patches that are darker in appearance than the surrounding skin, which can lead to skin discoloration and uneven skin tone. While hyperpigmentation can affect anyone, darker skin tones seem to be more susceptible to it. If hyperpigmentation has become an issue for you, here are three main reasons why it may be happening:

1: Too Much Sun Exposure

The leading cause of dark spots is sun damage. When your skin comes in contact with harmful UV rays, it releases melanin to protect itself. Melanin acts as a natural sunscreen, absorbing the energy from UV rays and redistributing it . However, too much sun exposure at once can cause an overload of melanin, resulting in dark spots. Hyperpigmentation is also a result of sun-damaged skin over the years, driven by frequent exposure to the sun while skin was left unprotected.

Solution: If you're noticing new skin pigmentation, it's time to start shielding your skin from the sun. Prevent UV exposure by wearing sun hats and sunscreen .By adding daily sunscreen to your morning skin care routine ,you take preventative measures to protect your skin now and in the future.

UV rays are not the only triggers that overproduce melanin; heat can cause it, too. Do your best to avoid activities in sweltering conditions, and when you are in the sun, try to keep your skin cool to reduce dark spots from forming.

2: Hormones

Much like too much sun causes an increase in the production of melanin, hormones also play a role. Extra hormones stimulate melanin production, leaving you with dark spots on your cheeks, jawline, nose, forehead, or chin. This type of hyperpigmentation is not always permanent and usually lasts until your hormone levels return to a balance. Hormone imbalance leading to hyperpigmentation is commonly observed in pregnant women, individuals undergoing hormone therapies, and those who recently changed their birth control.

Solution : The best way to stop or reduce pigmentation issues brought on by hormones is to bring your hormones back into balance. If you believe hormones are the cause of your dark spots, we recommend speaking with a healthcare professional to develop a plan that best works for you and your body's unique needs. In the meantime, applying topical antioxidants like any Active Concentrates Vitamin B3 + Vitamin C Serum can improve the appearance of discoloration and uneven skin tone. This lightweight serum is expertly formulated with Vitamin B and Vitamin C, which work together to inhibit excess melanin production, target discoloration, and unevenness, and ultimately improve radiance and luminosity for healthy-looking skin.

3: Inflammation

The third most common cause of dark spots is inflammation. Hyperpigmentation frequently forms after inflammation or injury to the skin. Acne, allergic reactions, and skin conditions like eczema can contribute to skin discoloration. When damage is caused to the skin, it tries to heal itself. As it heals, it produces melanin, and more often than not, it creates more than is needed. This excess melanin darkens the skin, meaning that even after the wound has healed, a dark spot is left behind

Solution : Whenever possible, avoid inflammation. However, because inflammation is a natural response in the body, don’t stress if you experience it. When it comes to your skin, post Inflammatory hyperpigmentation happens because your body is trying to heal itself. While you may not be able to prevent all wounds, you can avoid exacerbating inflammation by choosing not to pick at pimples, use harsh chemicals, or undergo intense skin treatments that might bother your skin texture and tone. Additionally, when you use acne scar products, make sure they're gentle on skin and follow up with a soothing moisturizer.

Our Skin Health Experts recommend using sunscreen daily at the end of your skincare routine. You’ll want to use a product with a minimum of SPF 30 protection to help minimize age spots from surfacing in the future. If you’re curious to learn more about it Contact KEMPS skin clinic.

Dry skin care in winters

Winter is here and as temperatures drop around the country, people are seen pulling out thick blankets and quilts, as well as loading their refrigerators with seasonal vegetables and fruits. The cold weather changes the body in numerous ways. It makes your body vulnerable to a number of diseases, viruses and bacteria, as well as a variety of skin and hair problems as well. The most apparent effect of cold weather is on the skin and the scalp.

A cup of hot chocolate might be the perfect way to keep oneself warm during the chilly winter season, but it is not only our bodies, our skin also needs a lot more love during the season. Dry, flaky skin is one of the most common skin issues in winters, no matter one’s skin type. The winter air is already dry and indoor heating systems only make it worse by stripping the skin of the moisture from its uppermost layer.

“Your skincare routine doesn’t have to be too complicated or have too many products in it to work. It’s about balancing what you’re putting on your skin and nourishing your body from the inside. Make sure you’re consistently following your skincare routine regardless of how minimal or elaborate it might be.

Some tips for care Dryskin In winter:

·    Avoid over-washing your face. It’s the dry season already and washing your face too many times is only going to be counterproductive. Keep it to two gentle cleanses a day, or as instructed by your dermatologist.

·      Switch your hot water shower with lukewarm water and reduce your bath time. Long hot showers strip away natural oils from your skin making it even drier.

·      Follow your cleansing routine with a thicker moisturiser and use serums and/or facial oils.

·       A five-minute background check on facial oils will be a game-changer. Choose oils that provide hydration without clogging pores. Avocado and safflower oils can be a great addition in your routine.

·       Moisturise your body just as you moisturise your face. Moisturising shower gels are a great option and should be followed by a body lotion/body butter depending on how dry your skin gets.

·       Drink a lot of water, and eat well (leafy greens, pomegranate, eggs etc). If you’re not nourishing and hydrating your body from the inside, skincare products won’t be able to help you on their own.

·       Mixing facial oil/moisturiser with your foundation can really help keep your makeup in place without drying your skin out.

·       Use ghee on dry-chapped lips. “I use it as an overnight lip mask and wake up to healthy, hydrated, and supple lips. The fatty acids in it help condition and nourish,” Says By Dermatologist.

Anti aging and step to get glowing skin

Anti ageing is an ongoing process. Sunlight, stress, unhealthy eating habits and environment all add years to our body and face. So, we can age gracefully by cosmetic procedures which not only turn back the clock but make us look graceful and in tune with our fast pacing life. These are called proactive anti-aging procedures which give instant results without downtime. They can be done as office procedures without any surgery and are safe and effective.

  • BOTOX can be done on face for dynamic wrinkles and fine lines on forehead, frown lines and crow’s feet. It is a US FDA approved for upper face and is a regular opd procedure which hardly takes 15 -20 min.
  • Threads are done for sagging around jaw line and cheeks. It helps in stimulating collagen production.
  • Dermal Fillers are done for volume correction in mid and lower face and act as liquid face lift.

Phase out some aging Habits

1-The single best thing you can do for your health and longevity is quit smoking. Smoking has been indicted for a laundry list of ills from heart disease to lung disorders, all of which can foil your longevity plans.

2- Drink only in moderation. Alcohol infuses every cell, damaging genes and inflaming your liver. A glass of wine a day for women and maybe two for men, but no more, may be mildly beneficial.

3-Get proper sleep. Your body needs down time to repair cells and rest your heart. And your mind needs dreaming to stay sane.

4-Consult with you dermatologist regarding anti aging. "Anti-aging is like saying anti-puberty or anti-pregnancy. This is a natural process," dermatologist says. Whatever his or her style, your new doctor may recommend yearly assessment of various biomarkers, including lipids, DHEA, estrogen, cortisol, thyroid, lung function, and micronutrient assays.

5-Cut saturated fat, up omega-3 fats. It's gospel by now: eat less or no red meat; lose the cake and ice cream; consume more complex carbs, such as whole grains, fruits, and vegetables; and get plenty of fatty fish. The healthy fats in salmon, mackerel, and sardines help keep oxygen free-radical molecules from damaging your cells.

6-Consider moderating your total food intake. Studies in rats show that a 30% calorie restriction means longer life (no, it doesn't just seem longer!). Blackman also cites studies in rhesus monkeys showing a gain in years from a reduction in food. Obviously, losing excess pounds means less strain on your system.

Expert tips for a minimal makeup to look beautiful

One of the greatest things about summer is the freedom to let loose with your beauty routine. Not only does the hot and humid air make an over-the-top makeup application nearly impossible, but the summer sun gives the skin a natural glow that requires little add-ons.

Minimal makeup look for warmer months gives off a more natural vibe that translates well with the summer season, The secret to pulling off this look requires a modest use of products that expands well beyond cosmetics. It starts with focusing on the health of your skin. “If your skin looks rested, hydrated and happy, your makeup can simply accent your natural beauty,” says by dermatologist and makeup expert.

Start with a clean face: One of the most essential elements to creating a flawless, low-key look is starting with freshly cleaned skin. Work in a hydrating cleanser that dissolves any existing makeup and impurities on the skin while simultaneously giving the skin a boost of antioxidants

Protect Your Skin With SPF: If skin health is truly important to you, you shouldn’t leave the house without SPF—especially in the summer when the UV rays are most intense. To prevent clogged pores and breakouts, always use a sunscreen that’s oil- and fragrance-free.

Add in Hydration: To combat dryness and keep skin as supple as possible so that your makeup goes on smoothly, it’s best to up your hydration game. Be sure to use a lightweight moisturizer that’s not too heavy but rich in texture. moisturizer which is enriched with ceramides and vitamin F, which helps protect the skin’s barrier and maintain proper hydration levels.

For an even higher dose of hydration, use any Hyaluronic Acid Intensifier—its key ingredient, hyaluronic acid, can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water! It also goes the extra mile by containing purple ride extract, which preserves the hyaluronic acid content in the skin.

Set Your Makeup Base:

For creating a smooth base upon which you can apply your makeup, you’ll want to use a skin-friendly primer (i.e. one that won’t clog pores and make you break out). Choose a Primer which has combination of hyaluronic acid and coconut alkanes which make your skin feeling nourished and moisturized due to an infusion of hyaluronic acid and coconut alkanes. What you can expect from using this primer is hydrated skin for the entire day and a dewy finish upon which you can apply the rest of your makeup.

If you want to combine two steps in one, you could use a tinted formula that contains SPF, It provides light coverage with a blend of skin-boosting nutrients like hyaluronic acid, plant-based squalane and niacinamide, a form of vitamin B that helps smooth skin texture. The added SPF protection also safely shields skin from blue and infrared light thanks to non-nano zinc oxide.

Give Brows a Grooming:  For a timeless no-makeup makeup look, you’ll definitely not want to forget your brows. You can fill them in easily and provide shaping and smoothing with any beauty product.

Accentuate Your Features: To give your skin that sun kissed glow and accentuate your natural features, add a pop of pigment to your cheekbones. With skin-loving ingredients like jojoba oil for moisture, gardenia extract, which provides antioxidant benefits, and RSA rubiginosa seed oil to help fight signs of premature aging.

By this method, you may look beautiful by minimal makeup. For more detail and skincare issue visit KEMPS Skin Clinic.

How to protect hand-skin while frequent hand washes

During this corona epidemic, doctor advice us or frequent hand wash and use of sanitizer. Frequent hand wash may damage our hand skin tissues. For this issue we ask an expert advice that how to protect our skin tissue. DR. manju keshri from KEMPS skin clinic. Vaishali, Ghaziabad. She is a famous dermatologist provide us some tips

Wash with warm water

To clean your hands from germs dr. says to wash hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water. Making sure to cover palms, backs of hands, fingers, in between fingers, wrists, and ingernails. She said lukewarm water is best rather than hot.“Very hot will eventually dry things out and doesn’t improve efficacy,” she said.

Use moisturizing soap

Always try to use soap that have moisturizer because some soap can strip the skin and cause them to be dry and cracked, she says to wash your hands with soap that’s moisturizing. “For example, soap with a creamy consistency. You should also look out for soaps with ingredients such as glycerin and lanolin. Also, try to avoid soap bars,”.skin care expert and aesthetician, also suggested staying away from bar soaps.

“The binders that hold a bar of soap together naturally have a high pH, which will cause unnecessary dryness. Instead, choose liquid soaps since they are generally less drying to the skin,”.

Apply moisturizer:

After frequent hand wash, water isn’t sealed into the skin after washing, it can dry out your hand.

“The reason is that water acts like a magnet and it will attract water out from the deepest layers of the skin and evaporate into the dry air. The result is even tighter, drier skin. To prevent this from happening, be sure to immediately apply hand cream afterward. Even a light layer will do,”

Dermatologist  suggests using creams or ointments rather than lotions, which she said have too much water content, and therefore don’t block water from escaping the skin.

She said moisturizers help with skin care because they:

  • Restore the barrier function of the epidermis
  • Provide a protective film
  • Fill in the small crevices between scales
  • Increase the water content of the epidermis
  • Soothe the skin
  • Improve the skin’s appearance and texture

Wear gloves

In addition to applying a moisturizer to damp skin after washing, she said to soak your hands in plain water for 5 minutes, then apply a moisturizer, and wear gloves for 1 to 2 hours.

“This will ensure that the surface moisture gets where it needs to go,” For really chapped hands, she  said to heavily moisturize hands with thick cream and wear cotton gloves overnight.

“Much like a facial sheet mask, the gloves will keep your hands moisturized for 6 to 8 hours allowing the skin on the hands to get some needed TLC,” she said. Wearing gloves on cold, windy days can also keep the wind from further damaging dry skin, added Friedman.

How to protect your skin in beginning of Summer

Now in India summer is started .Summers can be brutal. When the temperature soars, the heat and humidity can make your already active oil glands hyperactive. You eventually end up with excessive sebum around the T-zone, itchy rashes, sunburn, and premature signs of aging. This is why you need a proper skin care routine as your first line of defense. In this article, we will show you how to take care of your skin and keep it glowing during summer. Keep reading. So, in this hot summer season, let’s discuss skin care tips in summer and summer precautions for skin care.

Tan Protection:

The UV rays of the sun damage the skin. Not just the tan, they tend to cause skin burn and aging starts early and skin cancer, in some cases. We could get tanning lotion at some drugstore and use sunscreen before we move out of our homes. The moisturizers of the self-tanner give us smooth skin. We just want to remove the dry skin to prevent excess colorations, which can be done by exfoliating. So, now we have an even tone! This is you can say the best beauty tips for summer season.

Use sunscreen for safeguard your skin from UV rays

Dermatologists often ask us to use sunscreen before moving out. Not just to prevent tanning but to protect our skin from the UV radiations of the sun. The more SPF we use, the more the UV rays get blocked. The SPF 30 onwards, almost 97% of the harmful radiations gets blocked. When we apply it to the skin, due to the presence of some oxides of zinc and titanium, we get a whitish look. Now for better work, we can for a sunscreen that will block both UV-A and UV-B. But, often we sweat a lot in the hot days. Prolonged sweating can remove the sunscreen applied. So, now get out on summer days too without the fear of getting tanned.

Exfoliation is necessary

Scrubbing prevents blackheads and also uneven tones. Not just scrubs bought but also, the use of natural scrubs can help. Salt and sugar act as natural scrubs. Ever seen the ingredients of the scrubbers? You will find these natural products. Mix sugar with honey and rub it gently on the parts of the skin needed to. It will remove the dirt and impurities. It also prevents the growth of much facial hair.

Protect and nourish skin by Moisturizer

In summer skin also dry. Not just face but hands, feet. Avocado oil, or use some almond oil on the skin to moisturize the skin and nourish it with Vitamin E. Use of too much of chemical products can make skin extra-sensitive. To protect your skin, also, use a hat, umbrellas whenever possible to prevent sunburn. These were the few necessary steps to be taken to take care of the skin.

Eat healthy

Eat healthy food. Skin needs minerals to be flawless. It also needs vitamins. Fruits and vegetables have a lot of those. Eggs, fish, have a lot of protein that will grow collagen fibers and keep the elasticity of skin intact and wrinkles free.

Drink plenty of water

The skin dries in the summer due to the heat of the sun. We keep on sweating in this season. So, we need to drink a lot of water to keep the skin hydrated. We need to have at least 5-6 liters of water, daily. Use cold water to wash face. That will keep the glow of skin intact.

Eat fruits & Salad

As the summer is the season of dryness, we need to have fruits that have more content of water as in cucumber or watermelon which keeps the skin hydrated and are also healthy. A healthy body will give flawless skin too. A fruit face wash has grapes, strawberries, pears. Pasting these and applying it to face or having juice will help. Having salads which will include tomato, carrot, and beetroot will add to the beauty, too.

After taking all the care of the skin, we need to go out and have some fun. Parties dresses they can’t keep waiting so long. So, finally, we have some beauty tips for this summer season.

The sultry summer days are numbered. However, the rashes and patches that your skin develops during this period will stick around for a long time unless you take good care of your skin. These tips and recipes can help restore your skin’s natural balance and keep it well protected in the heat. For more skin related issue you may contact KEMPS Skin Clinic, Vaishali Sec,4 Ghaziabad.

Best Cleanser as per skin type

Now a day in market so many cleansing options available, and with each one touting different benefits, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and get swayed by false marketing claims. Knowing the difference between each type allows you to filter your options and makes the hunt for the perfect cleanser a whole lot easier. If you have a normal skin type, feel free to try any type of cleanser as long as your skin tolerates it. We are describing some of cleanser for your skin care.
1. Gel Cleansers: Gel cleansers are clear and, as the name suggests, have a gel-like consistency. Generally designed for deep cleansing, they are effective at decongesting clogged pores, removing excess oil and killing acne-causing bacteria, thanks to their antiseptic and exfoliating properties.
Best for: Oily and combination skin

2. Cream Cleansers: Cream cleansers are usually thick, creamy and contain moisturizing ingredients like botanical oils. They gently cleanse your skin without stripping it of its natural oils. Cream cleansers can also come in the form of “milk” or “lotion.”
Best for: Dry and sensitive skin
3. Foam Cleansers: Foam cleansers are lightweight cleansers that start out as cream or gel and burst into a rich, foamy lather. This type of cleanser removes excess oil as effectively as gel cleansers.
Best for: Oily and combination skin
4. Oil Cleansers: Washing your skin with oil may sound like a recipe for breakouts, especially if you have oily skin, but most experts disagree. An oil cleanser is a gentle way of removing pore-clogging debris—including waterproof makeup—without drying your skin.
Best for: Most skin types
5. Clay Cleansers: Known for their absorbing power, clay cleansers purify your skin by drawing out excess oil and toxins from your pores.
Best for: Oily and combination skin
6. Micellar Cleansers: Originating in France, micellar waters feature “micelles”—or tiny oil molecules suspended in soft water—that attract oil, dirt and makeup. Another great thing about them: You don’t need to rinse them off with water.
Best for: Dry and sensitive skin
7. Powder Cleansers: Powder cleansers are nothing new, but they are certainly having a big moment right now. These cleansers—powdery soft when dry—dissolves into a creamy concoction upon contact with water, thoroughly cleansing your skin while providing gentle exfoliation. Unlike old-school physical exfoliants like those containing beads, powder cleansers can contain ingredients like rice starch or chickpea flour, which are kinder on the environment.
Best for: Oily and sensitive skin
8. Bar Cleansers: After years of staying out of the skin care spotlight, bars are slowly sneaking back in. This new breed of bars—some contain very little soap, others have none at all—are just as skin-friendly and luxurious as their liquid counterparts. They also offer more skin-friendly pH levels in addition to nutrient-rich, highly moisturizing ingredients, such as glycerin and essential oils. Extra points for being a greener choice than liquid soaps because the packaging materials primarily paper and cardboard break down more easily in landfills than plastic packaging.
Best for: Oily and combination skin
9. Cleansing Cloths, Mitts and Sponges: There are cleansing wipes, and then there are cleansing cloths, mitts and sponges. These cleansers are made with special fibers—some are plant-derived and don’t typically require the use of any traditional cleansers—to thoroughly remove impurities while also sloughing off dead skin cells. A few examples are muslin cloths, kassa/kessa mitts sponges.
Best for: Oily and combination skin

Adverse effect of makeup on skin

Makeup has become a necessity for most women and they believe that they cannot step out of the house without at least five different kinds of cosmetic products. The cosmetics market has bloomed to such an extent that not only are there different cosmetics for every kind of body part, there are different ones for different seasons too! But before makeup is marketed to us, it is tested on animals. Do you ever wonder why is it so?

Because the cosmetics we trust to make us beautiful are actually full of so many harmful chemicals. And despite the fact that these cosmetics make us look good temporarily, in the end they are going to leave an ugly effect.

Clogged Pores:

It’s easy to skip washing your face at night, but the negatives far outweigh the positives of this lazy habit. Sleeping in makeup can clog your pores and invite acne onto your face. It also can irritate your eyes and cause bumps to form on the skin close to your eyes.

Premature Aging:

Leaving makeup on your skin overnight can accentuate wrinkles. Sun damage can also cause aging (and many people don’t wear sunscreen when they are wearing makeup). Age spots and wrinkles can appear as a result of not properly protecting your skin.

Dry or Oily Skin:

Certain makeup products can make your skin drier or more oily than it usually is. Additionally, when people with naturally dry skin try to put makeup on top of their skin, the makeup can make their skin even drier. You can tell if you have dry skin by symptoms such as flaky or scaly skin. A shiny face is a sign of oily skin.

So if you wear makeup every day-like many women-how can you protect your skin? We’ve compiled some makeup habits to help keep your skin as healthy as possible. If you develop these habits, your skin will thank you.

Healthy Makeup Habits for Your Skin:

Wash your face every night

It can be hard to motivate yourself to take off your makeup at night before you go to sleep. However, to avoid hurting your skin, it’s essential to develop this habit. The process includes first, using a makeup remover, and second, washing your face with a facial cleanser.

Clean your brushes regularly

This one can be difficult to do regularly, but you only need to clean your makeup brushes once a month. Deep cleaning your brushes will help get rid of the harmful bacteria on the brushes that come from your skin—from sweat and dead skin cells—and the bacteria that comes from makeup products.

Find makeup products that work for your skin

Everyone’s skin is different, and that’s why you need to pay attention to how your skin reacts to different products. Some products may dry your skin out, while others can make it oily. Through trial and error, you can find the makeup that is the best for your skin. Many dermatologists recommend mineral-based makeup products because they are often less harsh on your skin.

Use moisturizer and sunscreen daily

People often don’t use moisturizer or sunscreen as a part of their daily makeup routine, but, they really should—moisturizer can help alleviate the dryness makeup can cause, and sunscreen can help with anti-aging efforts. To combat dry skin, try to avoid putting makeup on flaky or scaly skin. If you must put on makeup, use a moisturizer as a base underneath your makeup. There are also brands available that combine moisturizer and sunscreen into one product to help you save time.

Don’t share makeup

When you want to borrow your friend’s lipstick, you’d better think twice. Sharing beauty products is a great way to spread bacteria. It may be convenient, but it won’t help your skin in the long run.
These simple steps will help you get the healthy, glowing skin that you deserve. Makeup isn’t totally bad for your skin, but it can cause problems if you practice unhealthy makeup habits. Developing these routines will help create a safe environment for your skin. Even though these are simple tips, they’ll help save you from unwanted acne, aging, and dry or oily skin.

What is Age spot, Its symptoms and treatment

Age spots:

Age spots are flat brown, gray, or black spots on the skin. They usually occur on sun-exposed areas. Age spots are also called liver spots, senile lentigo, solar lentigines, or sun spots.

Causes of age spots

Age spots are the result of an excess production of melanin, or skin pigment. Doctors don’t always know why age spots develop. Skin aging, sun exposure, or other forms of ultraviolet (UV) light exposure, such as tanning beds, are all possible causes.

  • your face
  • the back of your hands
  • your shoulders
  • your upper back
  • your forearms

Symptoms of age spots and treatment:

Age spots range from light brown to black in color. The spots have the same texture as the rest of your skin, and usually appear on sun-exposed areas. They do not cause any pain.

a)      Prescription medications:
Your healthcare provider may prescribe bleaching creams to fade the age spots gradually. These usually contain hydroquinone, with or without retinoids such as tretinoin. Bleaching creams usually take several months to fade age spots.
Bleaching and tretinoin creams make your skin more sensitive to UV damage. You will need to wear sunscreen at all times during treatment and continue to wear sunscreen, even on cloudy days, after fading the spots.
b)      Medical procedures:
There are several medical procedures that can remove or reduce age spots. Each medical procedure carries a risk of side effects and complications. Ask your dermatologist, plastic surgeon, or skin care professional about which treatment is the most appropriate for your skin.
Medical procedures for age spots include:
  • Intense pulsed light treatment, which emits a range of light waves that passes through the skin and targets melanin to destroy or breakup the spots
  • Chemical peels, which remove the outer layer of your skin so new skin can grow in its place
  •  Dermabrasin which smooths off the outer layers of the skin so new skin can grow in its place
  • Cryosurgery, which freezes individual age spots with liquid nitrogen

Preventing age spots:
While you can’t always prevent age spots, there are several ways you can reduce your chances of developing them:
  • Avoid the sun between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., when the sun’s rays are most intense.
  • Wear sunscreen every day. It should have a sun protection factor (SPF) rating of at least 30 and contain both UVA and UVB protection.
  • Apply sunscreen at least 30 minutes before sun exposure. Reapply every two hours, and more often if swimming or perspiring.
  • Wear protective clothing such as hats, pants, and long-sleeved shirts. These help protect your skin from UV rays. For the best protection, wear UV-blocking clothes with an ultraviolet protection factor (UPF) of at least 40.

What is Keratosis Pilaris

“Keratosis pilaris (KP) is a common and benign disorder of hair follicles in the skin,” says Dr Manju keshari, Senior Dermatologists ,KEMPS Skin Clinic “ It typically presents as rough 1 to 2 mm little bumps on your skin, particularly on the backs of arms but can also affect the buttocks, upper thighs and even cheeks. It’s often described in association with other dry skin conditions like eczema.”

50 to 80 percent of adolescents and 40 percent of adults have keratosis pilaris, and because it’s inherited, about half of patients also have family members with the same skin condition. It’s typically at its worse during puberty and improves with age, but as with most skin conditions, it can also be affected by the changing seasons. “Keratosis pilaris improves during summer months and worsens as the skin tends to dry out during the winter,” she explains.

Gradually, keratosis pilaris usually clears up on its own. In the meantime, you might use any of the various products available to help improve the appearance of affected skin. If moisturizing and other self-care measures don't help, your doctor may prescribe medicated creams.

How to Treat Keratosis Pilaris:

(1)    Creams to remove dead skin cells. Creams containing alpha hydroxy acid, lactic acid, salicylic acid or urea help loosen and remove dead skin cells. They also moisturize and soften dry skin. Depending on their strength, these creams (topical exfoliants) are available over-the-counter or with a prescription. Your dermetologist can advise you on the best option and how often to apply. The acids in these creams may cause redness, stinging or skin irritation, so they aren't recommended for young children.

(2)    Creams to prevent plugged follicles: Creams derived from vitamin A (topical retinoids) work by promoting cell turnover and preventing plugged hair follicles. Tretinoin (Retin-A, Renova, Avita) and tazarotene (Avage, Tazorac) are examples of topical retinoids. These products can irritate and dry the skin. Also, if you're pregnant or nursing, your dermatologist may suggest delaying topical retinoid therapy or choosing another treatment

Home remedies:

Self-help measures won't prevent keratosis pilaris or make it go away. But they may improve the appearance of the affected skin.
1)      Use warm water and limit bath time. Hot water and long showers or baths remove oils from the skin. Limit bath or shower time to about 10 minutes or less. Use warm, not hot, water.
2)      Be gentle to the skin. Avoid harsh, drying soaps. Gently remove dead skin (exfoliate) with a washcloth or loofah. Vigorous scrubbing or removal of hair follicle plugs may irritate the skin and aggravate the condition. After washing or bathing, gently pat or blot the skin with a towel so that some moisture remains.
3)      Try medicated creams. Apply an over-the-counter cream that contains urea (Nutraplus, Eucerin), lactic acid (AmLactin, Lac-Hydrin), alpha hydroxy acid or salicylic acid. These creams help loosen and remove dead skin cells. They also moisturize and soften dry skin. Put on this product before moisturizer.
4)      Moisturize. While the skin is still moist from bathing, apply a moisturizer that contains lanolin (Lansinoh, Medela), petroleum jelly (Vaseline) or glycerin (Glysolid). These ingredients soothe dry skin and help trap moisture. Thicker moisturizers work best, such as Eucerin and Cetaphil. Reapply the product to the affected skin several times a day.
5)      Use a humidifier. Low humidity dries out the skin. A portable home humidifier or one attached to your furnace will add moisture to the air inside your home.
6)      Avoid friction from tight clothes. Protect affected skin from the friction caused by wearing tight clothes.

Is Vitamin A effective an Anti-Ageing ingredient?

Vitamin A is a term for the many related compounds which are also known as retinoids. The vitamin A family is almost as extensive as a big Greek wedding. It includes retinol, retinal or retin-A, retinoids and naturally occurring vitamin A.

Vitamin A and its derivatives are one of the most misunderstood and controversial ingredients. It's implicated in liver toxicity, birth defects and cancer. On the flip side, vitamin A is touted as a miracle skincare ingredient that you shouldn't be without. Whilst vitamin A is essential to our health and well-being, too much of anything can cause issues.

What makes vitamin a so effective as an anti-ageing ingredient?

Vitamin A and its derivatives are known as the gold standard when it comes to incredible skin rejuvenating ingredients. They have more anti-aging skin benefits than just about any other compound. Dependent on the strength and formulation, retinoids work through the mechanism of inhibiting the enzymes that break down collagen and increase cellular turnover, resulting in a softening of fine lines and wrinkles.

Vitamin A can also work to fight acne by dissolving surface oil and diminishing pores, as well as evening out the skin tone by fading dark spots and reducing pigmentation. In short, vitamin A in the correct dosage and formulation, can give you a rosy, glowing complexion.

BETA-CAROTENE OR PROVITAMIN A

Provitamins or natural precursors of vitamin A include alpha carotene, beta-carotene and beta-cryptoxanthin. They are a precursor to vitamin A, which means it converts to vitamin A in the body.

The retinoic acid slow-releases as the retinol in the formula is converted into retinoic acid within the skin. Beta-carotene is known to combat and prevent skin disorders like acne, eczema and psoriasis. It can protect against melasma by affecting the production of skin pigment. It’s a powerful antioxidant and can also protect against sun damage and assist with wound healing, as well as soothing dry and flaky skin.

RETINAL (RETINALDEHYDE)

Retinal or retinaldehyde is the aldehyde form of vitamin A and is purported to be the most effective for your skin. It’s the transitional form of A and is created in the conversion of retinol to retinoid or retinoic acid.  It can assist with minimising the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It’s less commonly used in skincare formulations, as this form can be irritating even at very low doses. It should be using sparingly and slowly introduced into your night time routine.
