Skin problems in winter & care

Winter is always a tough time for your skin. The cold weather and dry air draw out the precious moisture away from your Body & skin. And due to dryness skin can lead to cracking and bleeding, and the cold winds only make the matters worse. Indoor heat further robs the air of moisture, as do hot showers or baths and harsh cleansers.

Cold weather also impacts on hairs The hair, it gets dry and static, leaving you looking totally unprepared for that important board meeting. Don't worry, the problems might seem endless, but the solutions are simple. Dermatologist Dr Manju keshari, of KEMPS Skin Clinic, gives us some handy tips to avoid skin problems this season.

Winter Dry Skin:

This is the most wide-spread winter skin problem, and it happens when already-dry skin is exposed to dry air or low environmental humidity (like in heated areas). Skin becomes itchy, chapped, red, or scaly. To soothe dry skin, use mild soaps with warm water instead of hot, and keep your bathing brief.

How does winter affect our skin?

According to Dr. Manju, “Everyone notices a difference in their skin in winter, no matter how small”, due to a drop in heat and humidity, as well as the dietary changes and hotter showers that typically come with winter. Skin can be less oily, fine lines become more prominent and dry skin conditions such as eczema and dermatitis more pronounced. So it’s very important to take proper care of your skin in a winter season.

Winter skin care tips:
  • Apply the petroleum jelly on the face, lips, hands, legs.
  • Do not take the hot water baths. The hot water takes out the moisture in the skin then skin becomes dry. So try to avoid the hot and long baths in winter.

  • Try to cover the most of the body with the clothes. Do not expose the skin to the cold air.
