What is sensitive skin? How to get rid of sensitive skin?

Often we think about sensitive skin if we see redness or dryness. This cannot completely be a judge of terming your skin sensitive. It is good that you to consult a dermatologist to assess if you really have sensitive skin or if it is just dry and dehydrated. Some common symptoms could be:

  • Extremely dry skin which does not protect the nerve endings
  • Regular skin reactions leading to rashes, breakouts, etc.
  • Skin itching and redness after using certain products

Dermatologists characterize sensitive skin as exceptionally dry skin, which is inclined to skin reactions, for example, pustules, skin knocks or skin disintegration and have a propensity toward reddening and skin flushing. Excessively dry skin can no longer secure nerve endings, in this way prompting to sensitive skin responses.

Symptoms of Sensitive Skin:
  • Rash
  • Itchiness
  • Flushing
  • Burning
  • Puffiness
·         How do I know if I have sensitive skin?

You could have sensitive skin on the off chance that it responds when it comes into contact with a certain healthy skin specialist. Your skin may feel tingling, and you may encounter a shivering or burning sensation.

Everyone’s skin is different. If you can identify with one or more of these signs, you may have sensitive skin.

Sensitive skin:
  • Needs extra hydration in winter
  • Flushes easily after a spicy meal or drinking alcohol
  • Have patches of redness that may or may not fade
  • Can feel itchy after wearing coarse, synthetic fabrics
  • Turns red and dries out after a hot shower or bath
  • Becomes irritable after continued washing with hard water

What causes it?

At the point when nerve endings in the top layer of your skin are irritated, they respond. Nerve endings in the touchy skin can either be more inclined to disturbance or be because of a separated skin obstruction work. Your skin can be more delicate under various circumstances. Ordinarily, reasons for sensitive skin can include:
  • Sun exposure
  • Dry skin
  • Cold, harsh weather
  • Lack of sleep
  • Exposure to air pollution
  • Frequent changes in temperature
  • Water with higher mineral content (Hard water)
  • Very hot water
  • Hormonal changes during menstrual cycle or pregnancy
  • Stress and late nights
  • Chlorine in swimming pools
  • Dehydration

Skin test for sensitive skin:

Like I mentioned above, it is very important to have a skin test done before using a new product on your face or trying a new brand of cosmetic altogether. Just put a small amount on your skin, not the face, for 48 hours to see any skin reaction. Dr. Manju Keshari is one of the best doctors in Delhi-NCR. She has a lot of experience in skin diseases.
